HOW AUSTRALIA FARED IN THE TEST SERIES AGAINST PAKISTAN.
MICHAEL CLARKE (capt)
* Runs: 57 at 14.25
* Wickets: 0-24
* Blames himself for series loss for not making big scores and partly right on that count. But 11 dropped catches and lifeless pitches didn’t help his bowlers.
* Rating: 3/10
CHRIS ROGERS
* Runs: 88 at 22.00
* Solid in first Test. Failed twice in second Test. At 37 he can’t afford many more bad Tests.
* Rating: 3/10.
DAVID WARNER
* Runs: 239 runs at 59.75
* With a hundred in the first Test and a half-century in the second, Warner is a star. Has enjoyed showing the spinners who’s boss on turning pitches.
* Rating: 8/10
ALEX DOOLAN
* Runs: 5 at 5.00
* His run out in first Test was a poor effort which sparked criticism from Warner. Showed nothing in second innings and was dropped. Faces battle to regain spot.
* Rating: 1/10
GLENN MAXWELL
* Runs: 41 at 20.50
* Wickets: 0-78
* Reached 37 in second Test before playing wild shot which didn’t please coach Darren Lehmann. Was thrown in deep end at No.3 then but has potential at Test level.
* Rating: 3/10
STEVE SMITH
* Runs: 174 at 43.30
* Wickets: 3 at 48.33
* Scored a half-century in both Tests and was a delight to watch against the spinners, which suggests he has the game to take on all comers on all surfaces. Was under-bowled.
* Rating: 7.5/10
MITCHELL MARSH
* Runs: 164 at 41.00
* Wickets: 0-110
* Struggled on debut in first Test but his double of 87 and 47 in second Test was a morale-booster for Australia in a one-sided series. Barring injury, he is going places.
* Rating: 7/10
BRAD HADDIN
* Runs: 45 at 11.25
* Showed a ton of courage to bat with a badly bruised shoulder in second Test, but didn’t have an impact on series.
* Rating: 3/10
MITCHELL JOHNSON
* Runs: 98 at 24.50
* Wickets: 6 at 29.50
* On pitches that were low and slow, taking away his main advantages, the express left-armer was a constant threat. Also batted well in first Test.
* Rating: 7.5/10
PETER SIDDLE
* Runs: 47 at 15.66
* Wickets: 2 at 108.50
* Claimed only two wickets but wasn’t as bad as average suggests. Will appreciate a return to Australian pitches and regularly bowled at high 130s pace.
* Rating: 3.5/10
MITCHELL STARC
* Runs: 2 at 2.00
* Wickets: 2 at 71.00
* Another pace bowler who struggled to get breakthroughs. Had a tough time against Misbah during his record-equalling hundred off 56 balls.
* Rating: 3/10
NATHAN LYON
* Runs: 19 at 6.33
* Wickets: 3 at 140.66
* Could reasonably have been expected to have dominated like Pakistan’s spinners did, but posed no problems. Would’ve preferred Australia to bat first, bowl last.
* Rating: 2/10
STEVE O’KEEFE
* Runs: 6 at 6.00
* Wickets: 4 at 54.75
* Perhaps unlucky to be dropped after being Australia’s leading wicket-taker in first Test, but Maxwell was seen as better value as an allrounder. Next Test a while away.
* Rating: 5/10.
