South Australia have fought back with five wickets in the morning session on day two of the Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at Bellerive.
At lunch, the Tigers had slumped to 8-135 in their first innings, a lead of just 23, after beginning the day at 3-63.
Australian allrounder Dan Christian (2-30) and paceman Chadd Sayers (3-28) grabbed two wickets each in the session on a Bellerive deck still favouring the seamers.
Christian repeatedly beat the bat and was rewarded with the scalps of Aiden Blizzard (30), who was caught behind, and James Faulkner (2), trapped lbw.
Sayers removed Luke Butterworth (0) and then claimed top scorer Ben Dunk (45) to an amazing catch by Michael Klinger, who sprinted out of the slips cordon and then dived to take the high ball.
Dunk’s score is the highest for the match so far in the keeper-batsman’s first Shield outing for his new state.
Test spinner Nathan Lyon is yet to get the ball in his hands with the green-tinged pitch and cool conditions giving the pacemen a field day.
Tasmanian skipper George Bailey was the first to fall on Friday morning when he was trapped in front by Kane Richardson (2-22) on 32 and the score 4-75.
Christian then removed Blizzard (5-107) and Faulkner (6-111) before Sayers’ double strike left Tasmania at 8-135.
