Rain stopped play early in Sunday’s one-day cricket match between Australia and India at the MCG.
Australia were in trouble at 2-35 from 11 overs after losing the toss, with opener Matthew Wade unbeaten on 21 in his one-day international debut and captain Michael Clarke not out five.
Wade had temporarily broken the shackles in the two balls before the players left the ground, hitting a six and a four off Praveen Kumar.
But they were rare highlights so far in this game for the Australians.
Fellow opening bowler Vinay Kumar bowled David Warner for six and then picked up the prized scalp of Ricky Ponting for two.
Ponting turned away in disgust after his loose back-foot drive went straight to Suresh Raina at cover for a simple catch.
It has been a day of bad news so far for Australia, with paceman Brett Lee ruled out for the entire one-day series with a broken toe.
Lee suffered the injury in Friday night’s Twenty20 loss to India, also at the MCG.
