Rain still falling at Gabba in Shield

Rain has washed out the entire middle session of day two action in Queensland’s Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria at the Gabba.

Showers disrupted the morning session before lunch was called almost half an hour early with Victoria 6-174 thanks to an unbroken 106-run stand by Matthew Wade (70 not out) and Peter Siddle (51 not out).

Resuming on Thursday at 6-103, the pair defied the gloomy, bowler-friendly conditions on what seemed a juicy Gabba deck after overnight rain to ensure first innings points for the visitors.

Wade was dropped on 40 off Ben Cutting (2-36), while Luke Feldman (2-40) and Alister McDermott (2-33) also enjoyed no luck.

It was still a solid display by the Victorian pair who came together at 6-68 late on Wednesday.

Their stubborn stand was in stark contrast to day one when remarkably 16 wickets fell.

Siddle (3-36) and fellow Test quick James Pattinson (2-29) knocked over Queensland’s top order before John Hastings (4-41) cleaned up the tail as the hosts fell for 149 in their first innings.
