Rain halts T20 international

Rain has halted play in the international Twenty20 game between Australia and India with the hosts 2-131 after 14.4 overs.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has starred for Australia, scoring an unbeaten 70 off just 41 balls with five fours and three sixes to delight the 52,000 fans at ANZ Stadium.

The Victorian left-hander was not out when rain stopped play, with David Hussey unbeaten on 17.

Wade, who has replaced Brad Haddin for the upcoming one-day series against India and Sri Lanka, opened with David Warner and initially played a support role to the NSW star.

Warner made a slow start but exploded into action in the third over when he smashed a remarkable switch-hit for six.

A four and then another six followed off the next two deliveries and the pugnacious left-hander had swiftly moved to 20 and given Australia dramatic momentum.

Warner’s knock didn’t last long however, miscuing another big shot in the next over which Suresh Raina caught comfortably to remove the opener for 25 off 14 balls.

Wade built on his opening partner’s good start, smashing a massive 109m six off Ravi Ashwin in the eighth over before again clearing the ropes in the 13th over to pass 50 off just 34 balls.

Another six followed in the delivery before the rain delay as Australia looked to accelerate.
