Rain delays second England-NZ Test

Rain delayed the scheduled start in the second Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley on Friday.

When play should have been getting under way, persistent early morning rain meant the pitch and square remained fully covered at Yorkshire’s ground in Leeds, with little prospect of any play before lunch.

England lead the two-Test series 1-0 after their 124-run win in the first Test at Lord’s.

That match ended with James Anderson just one wicket away from becoming only the 12th bowler, and first from England, to take 400 Test wickets.

Meanwhile England captain Alastair Cook needs just 32 more runs to break batting mentor Graham Gooch’s England Test runs record of 8,900.
