Queensland in trouble v Tasmania in Shield

Queensland have made a rocky start to their second innings in the Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at Bellerive.

The Bulls were 3-29 at lunch on Sunday, still 26 runs behind the Tigers who were dismissed for 260 on the morning of day three.

Andrew Robinson is unbeaten on seven, with Chris Lynn yet to score.

The sun is finally out in Hobart after rain disruptions on all three days but the batsmen’s struggles against the moving ball have continued.

The Tigers had big shouts for caught behind against Ryan Broad and Wade Townsend turned down, while Robinson edged short of second slip when he was on nought.

Broad went for two when he was well caught by Ed Cowan at third slip off the bowling of Luke Butterworth.

Townsend followed for 16 when he was caught behind off a Jackson Bird delivery.

Bird had a second when he had Joe Burns caught by Cowan for two.

The Tigers resumed at 5-221 but lost 5-39 on Sunday morning to take a 55-run first innings lead, desperately seeking an outright victory to push for a place in the final.

Bulls paceman Alister McDermott cleaned up the tail, nabbing the last three wickets to finish with figures of 3-48.

Fellow quick Ben Cutting ended with 3-73.

Queensland opened with part-timers Lynn and Broad and the move paid dividends when Broad trapped Matt Johnston in front without adding to his overnight score of three.

Cutting removed dangerman Butterworth, lbw for 17, before McDermott sent Brady Jones (15), Brendan Drew (0) and Bird (0) on their way after another morning session delayed by rain.

Cowan top scored for the Tigers with 82, while Mark Cosgrove made 67.

Shield holders Tasmania need the full six points to leapfrog Victoria into third place on the ladder and put second-placed Western Australia under pressure for a place in the decider.
