Qld’s Harris ill and not bowling in Shield

A virus is preventing Test spearhead Ryan Harris bowling for Queensland against South Australia in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

Harris is the sixth Bulls player to suffer a stomach illness during the match, which is headed for a draw at Glenelg Oval.

At lunch on Saturday’s final day, the Redbacks were 0-31 in their second innings, still 47 runs behind Queensland’s first-innings total.

Harris batted for the Bulls earlier on Saturday and made 22 runs but, with his key role in the Ashes series against England starting on November 21, he’s not being risked to bowl.

The Bulls banked a first-innings lead of 78 runs as SA captain Johan Botha claimed 5-114 from 51 overs in his first long-form match since being cleared of having an illegal bowling action.

The Redbacks’ skipper was cited by umpires in a recent one-dayer but was cleared by biomechanical testing overseen by Cricket Australia.

The South African-born offspinner claimed one wicket on Saturday while paceman Peter George took two to wrap up the Queensland innings about 75 minutes before lunch.
