Queensland claimed a comprehensive Sheffield Shield win over NSW at Allan Border Field as Test allrounder Shane Watson failed to bat for the Blues on Sunday.
Watson, who left the field on Saturday with a sore calf after bowling just one over during Queensland’s first innings, failed to return as he struggles to get fit for the first Test against South Africa starting on Friday.
In his absence, the Blues set the Bulls a victory target of just 104 after being dismissed for just 175 in their second innings early on Sunday morning.
The Bulls cruised to the victory target, reaching 4-106 with Peter Forrest unbeaten on 27 while Nathan Reardon was not out on 13 at the other end.
Former NSW batsman Usman Khawaja took to his teammates, belting 54 off just 38 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes, to post his second half-century of the match.
Khawaja was the only batsman to get on top of the bowlers with Wade Townsend (0), Joe Kemp (10) and Joe Burns (0) all failing.
Trent Copeland claimed two wickets for the Blues while Doug Bollinger and Mitchell Starc took one each.
Resuming on 5-121, NSW lost their final four wickets in quick time as Cameron Gannon and Luke Feldman wrapped up the innings.
Feldman took the first two wickets, removing Starc after a breezy 25 and Copeland for 10 to finish with 3-58.
Gannon finished with 4-61 after claiming the wickets of Peter Nevill for 28 and last-man Josh Hazlewood for four.
