Qld 3-91 2nd innings v WA in Shield

Mitchell Marsh has led a Western Australia couter attack as Queensland stumbled with the bat in the Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba on Wednesday.

Marsh (2-14) broke a 53-run second wicket stand between Ryan Broad (40) and Andrew Robinson (30) to have the Bulls reeling at 3-91 in their second dig at tea on day three – still trailing overall by 17 runs.

WA bounced back after a batting collapse ensured they were dismissed in their first dig for 359.

The visitors at one stage lost 5-55 after resuming on Wednesday at 4-250.

WA easily earned first innings points but would have been disappointed to only hold a 108-run overall lead after sitting pretty at 2-234 on Tuesday.

Queensland quick Ben Cutting (5-99) – in his first Shield game since missing two months with a side strain – took five of the six WA wickets to fall on Wednesday.

After WA were bowled out on the stroke of lunch, Queensland emerged from the break keen to chip away at the visitor’s lead but disaster struck early.

Opener Wade Townsend – who took four hours to hit 54 in the first dig – lasted only five balls.

He was caught behind off ex-Bulls quick Nathan Rimmington (1-13 off six) in the first over of the innings as Queensland were left reeling at 1-0.

Robinson and Broad looked to consolidate before Marsh removed the pair.

Marsh had Robinson caught at gully before clean bowling Broad just before tea.
