Former Test captain Ricky Ponting has re-signed with the Hobart Hurricanes for the Twenty20 Big Bash League.
Ponting was part of the Hurricanes’ squad last season but international commitments meant he was only available for one match.
The 37-year-old is hopeful of turning out for more of the BBL in 2012-13.
“I really enjoyed my short time with the Hurricanes last season and being part of the team’s first ever win (over Perth Scorchers) was something I’ll never forget,” he said.
“The side is coming together really well and I am excited to be part of it all again and can hopefully put in some good performances.”
The Hurricanes, who made the semi-finals last season, have assembled a strong squad, including 2011-12 player of the tournament Travis Birt, former Test wicketkeeper Tim Paine and Englishman Owais Shah.
They begin their campaign on December 9 against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.
