Captain Ricky Ponting was dismissed for a duck but then pulled off a spectacular catch when his Mumbai Indians took on Delhi Daredevils at home in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.
Mumbai won the toss but proceeded to lose champion openers Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar (1) with just a run on the board.
However, Dinesh Karthik (86) resurrected the innings with a magnificent counter-attacking knock. He hit Ashish Nehra for a six before following it with a boundary.
Later, Rohit Sharma finished the proceedings with a flurry, smacking three sixes in the final over to take Mumbai to a mammoth 5-209.
Mumbai struck with the very first ball of the run-chase as Ponting made a spectacular catch to dismiss Unmukt Chand (0).
Mitchell Johnson then struck sending back Delhi captain Mahela Jayawardene (3) to further dent the chase.
Johnson’s fifth over was dispatched for three boundaries as Delhi, under David Warner and Manprit Juneja (49), attempted to rally back.
But Johnson got rid of the dangerous Warner (61) in the 11th over, caught by Ambati Rayudu at deep point, and Delhi fell short at 9-165.
Earlier in the day, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a convincing seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
