Pomersbach drafted into Qld shield team

Former Western Australia opener Luke Pomersbach has been called up by Queensland to play his old state in this week’s Sheffield Shield clash in Perth.

Pomersbach will make his first appearance for the Bulls this season in the match starting on Friday at the WACA Ground after Greg Moller was ruled out with an ankle injury.

The left-hander played the second half of last summer’s Shield campaign with the Bulls after inspiring the Brisbane Heat to victory in the Twenty20 Big Bash competition.

Young paceman Alister McDermott has also been included in Queensland’s squad after being released from the Chairman’s XI for this week’s two-day tour match against England in Alice Springs.

The Bulls head west desperate for a victory after failing to notch a win in their first four Shield matches this summer.

Following a drawn encounter with NSW in Sydney earlier this week the Bulls are bottom of the Shield ladder with just two points.

The Warriors are one of three teams six points above the Bulls following an innings victory over Victoria in their most recent Shield game.

Queensland: James Hopes (capt), Ben Cutting, Luke Feldman, Peter Forrest, Nathan Hauritz, Chris Hartley, Usman Khawaja, Chris Lynn, Alister McDermott, Michael Neser, Luke Pomersbach, Nathan Reardon (12th man to be named).
