Pollard blitzes ton as Windies make 294

West Indies allrounder Kieron Pollard scored a sensational hundred to put Australia on the backfoot in Friday’s fourth one-day international in St Lucia.

Pollard smashed eight sixes, including one off the final over to bring up his hundred, to lift the West Indies to an imposing 7-294 off their 50 overs.

The allrounder ended with 102 off just 70 deliveries to post his second ODI century and give the Windies every chance of taking a 2-1 lead in the five-game series.

Australia were simply battered into submission by the imposing 24-year-old, who combined with Andre Russell (34 off 32) and Darren Sammy (31no off 13) to belt 117 runs for the loss of just two wickets in the last 10 overs.

Pollard should probably have never reached his century, dropped on 77 by Xavier Doherty off the bowling off Clint McKay (1-57)

Brett Lee had a miserable day, belted for five fours in two overs early by opener Adrian Barath (41 off 31) before conceding 23 runs off the final over of the innings to finish with 2-72 off his 10 overs.

Doherty was also expensive with ball, conceding 64 off 10 overs despite claiming the wickets of Johnson Charles (37) and Dwayne Bravo (0) in consecutive deliveries in his second over.

Ben Hilfenhaus (0-43) was the most economical of Australia’s bowlers but failed to take a wicket while McKay and Shane Watson (2-55) saw their figures wrecked by Pollard’s late onslaught.
