Light but steady rain in London prevented playing getting underway until 2.30pm local time (11.30pm AEST).
Australia resumed at 4-307 with Steve Smith 66 not out and nightwatchman Peter Siddle unbeaten on 18.
More showers are predicted in London on Thursday.
