Perth set Adelaide 190 runs to win in BBL

Opening batsman Shaun Marsh top-scored with 79 as Perth Scorchers set the Adelaide Strikers 190 runs to win Thursday night’s Twenty20 Big Bash League match.

Marsh became the tournament’s top run-scorer as Perth amassed 4-189 – the highest score of the tournament – in the finals-shaping clash at Adelaide Oval.

Marsh cracked eight fours and two sixes in his 60-ball knock and his opening partner Herschelle Gibbs made 54 as both sides seek a win to earn a home semi-final next week.

The loser will rely on Brisbane Heat defeating Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday night to claim an away semi-final berth.

Marsh took his personal tally for the series to 328 runs, ahead of Melbourne Renegades skipper Aaron Finch (309 runs).

The left-hander and Gibbs raced to a half-century partnership from 6.1 overs and reached 0-78 at the halfway stage.

Gibbs soon posted his half-century from 32 deliveries before being bowled two balls later attempting to slog spinner Brad Young (1-28 from four overs).

But the South African had performed his duty, the 95-run opening stand with Marsh from only 12.1 overs giving Perth a perfect platform.

Marsh logged his half-century from 46 balls and Adam Voges (35 from 18 balls) continued the plundering of Adelaide’s bowlers despite two late wickets from Kane Richardson (2-42).
