Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers Preview

There is a sense of dejavu about this year’s BBL Final with both the Scorchers and the Sixers left standing for the second year in a row.

After last year’s disappointment, Perth made it clear early on that they were the team to beat, and it’s no surprise to find them installed as dominant favourites heading into Friday’s decider.

The Scorchers have lost only three games throughout the course of the year, while most importantly, they’ve also been able to exact revenge on the Sixers with three wins from their three meetings.

Aside from their record against Perth, the Sixers, meanwhile, have been almost as impressive playing to a  9-4 record.

Sydney made it to the Final the hard way after losing the Qualifier to Perth by 49 runs last week, but the defending champs will no doubt relish the role of underdog, and spoiler, with a chance to hoist a fourth trophy.

On paper, the Sixers have what it takes to put up a decent total, but it’s not going to come easy against what is arguably one of the best bowling attacks we’ve ever seen.

Jyhe Richardson, Andrew Tye, Ashton Agar, and Jason Behrendorff can all be considered elite T20 bowlers, and that has certainly been the case throughout the season with the Scorchers allowing an average of 145 runs against.

The Sixers have averaged only 142 during their previous three games against Perth, and I really don’t think that will be enough to down the heavy favourites.

On the opposite side, the Scorchers feature three of the competition’s Top 15 batsman, including Mitch Marsh, a player that tends to score big totals when it matters most.

Overall, this game should be just as close as it was last year, but with a different result.
