It appears the talented batsman is ready to launch another assault on the national teams with a blistering knock of 37 off 30 balls in the Scorchers opening fixture against Brisbane Heat.
History repeated itself for the Perth Scorchers in their grand final rematch against Brisbane Heat on Sunday night as they went down by three wickets. The Scorchers won’t hit the panic button with several positives to come out of the match including Mitch Marsh making an unbeaten 57 and veteran Brad Hogg snaring 3-21 from his four overs.
Hogg, who is 42, almost single-handedly bowled the Scorchers to victory and took a brilliant catch in the deep to dismiss man of the match Chris Lynn but it was not enough as the Heat blasted 26 off the final two overs to record a victory.
Melbourne Renegades are licking their wounds after cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars ended their recent dominance of the local derby with a 76 run win.
The most pleasing aspect of the Renegades’ performance was champion off-spinner Muthiah Muralidaran snaring 1-23 despite the Stars making a record 7-208.
The Renegades look likely to get the perfect tonic for their bowling woes with James Pattinson set to make his return from injury. Pattinson’s inclusion cannot come quick enough with Will Sheridan, who went for 1-52 from just 15 deliveries against the Stars, and Jayde Herrick (0-37 from 3.3) struggling against the Heat.
The Renegades will have their depth tested for the clash with Herrick no certainty to recover from a side strain suffered mid-way through his fourth over.
The Renegades will welcome Pakistan T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez into their line-up after this match. If the Renegades can string enough wins together early in the season they will take some beating later in the tournament with Peter Siddle also likely to be available.
