Pattinson, Siddle fly home from Windies

Australia fast bowlers James Pattinson and Peter Siddle are returning from the West Indies with back injuries.

Siddle has already left the Caribbean after missing the second Test in Trinidad with back soreness while Pattinson will head home at the end of play at Queen’s Park Oval.

Pattinson left the field during the third day of the Test in Trinidad after tweaking his back throwing a ball in the field.

The 21-year-old didn’t return after suffering back spasms and underwent scans in Port of Spain on Wednesday.

Australia team officials have already confirmed Pattinson will not bat in his customary No.8 position and will only take to the field if needed on Thursday’s final day in the rain-marred match.

The fast bowler, who was playing in his first Test since breaking down with a foot injury following the win over India at the SCG in January, is still suffering acute lower back pain.

No replacement will be called up leaving Australia with three quicks – Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitch Starc – for the third Test in Dominica starting on Monday.

Harris missed the second Test to rest his 32-year-old body following his man of the match efforts in the first Test in Barbados last week while Starc is yet to play a game on tour despite being with the squad throughout the one-day, Twenty20 and Test campaigns.
