Australia confront the only unbeaten team at the T20I World Cup, Pakistan, in the second semi-final.

Since suffering their only loss at the tournament – a convincing 7-wicket loss to England – Australia grabbed their spot in the semis with consecutive 8-wicket thrashings of Bangladesh and West Indies.

David Warner’s big scores against Sri Lanka (65) and West Indies (89*) have pegged him as the Aussies’ standout batsman; big guns Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Mitch Marsh have had limited time at the crease. Adam Zampa is enjoying a wonderful tournament with 11 wickets so far, while Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc have produced some big performances.

Pakistan effectively sealed top spot in Group 2 with sizzling victories over big guns India (10 wickets) and New Zealand (5 wickets) in the first four days of the tournament. They’ve since breezed past Afghanistan (5 wickets), Namibia (45 runs) and Scotland (72 runs).

Babar Azam (264 runs at 66) is the World Cup’s top run-scorer and boast four half-centuries, while opening partner Mohammad Rizwan (214 runs at 71.33) has also been excellent. Shoiab Malik blasted an 18-ball fifty against Scotland.

The teams last met at T20I level in late-2019, with Australia claiming a 2-0 series win at home. But Pakistan – who boast a 13-9 overall record in this T20I rivalry – have won the last five clashes outside Australia and boast a 6-1 all-time record between the nations in the UAE.

Pakistan have been the more consistent and impressive of the two teams, but their recent schedule has undoubtedly been softer. Australia are laced with match-winners and arguably have the stronger bowling attack. As slight underdogs the experienced Aussies look solid value.
