Pakistan, Sri Lanka level after day one

Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan struck twice in one over as Sri Lanka struggled to 3-44 in reply to the tourists’ modest first innings of 226 in the third Test on Sunday.

Khan trapped Dinesh Chandimal leg before wicket for 8 and two balls later he dismissed Kumar Sangakkara without scoring.

Mohammad Sami had captain Mahela Jayawardene lbw with a yorker in the last over of a first day dominated by fast bowlers on a lively wicket at Pallekele.

Earlier, Thisara Perera (4-63) knocked out the top Pakistan order after Sri Lanka won the toss but a half century from Asad Shafiq (75) lifted Pakistan from a precarious 4-56.

The Sri Lankans lead the three Test series 1-0.
