India have picked up three further wickets in the middle session on day three to continue their fightback against New Zealand in the first cricket Test in Auckland.
Corey Anderson (2), Ross Taylor (41) and Tim Southee (14) were the batsmen to fall as the Black Caps stumbled to 7-78 at tea.
Having chosen not to enforce the follow-on, New Zealand have taken their overall lead to 379.
Anderson was bowled by Mohammed Shami, while Taylor, who had been leading a period of consolation, edged a Zaheer Khan delivery to gully where Ajinkya Rahane took a sharp catch low down.
In the last over before the break, Southee was caught at mid-wicket off spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
The shift in momentum has been significant since New Zealand claimed the last six Indian wickets for 72 runs in the morning session to dismiss their opponents for 202.
Shami, with three wickets, and fellow seamer Khan, with two, have done the main damage for India, as they kept a tight line and were backed up by attacking fields.
After the disappointment of their own batting effort, the tourists struck back hard in the half-hour before lunch.
In the space of 7.4 overs, Hamish Rutherford (0) and Peter Fulton (5), first-innings century-maker Kane Williamson (3) and double centurion Brendon McCullum (1) all departed.
Rutherford was trapped leg before and Fulton holed out at cover, while Williamson fell to a brilliant diving catch by Jadeja at mid-wicket.
Skipper McCullum was run-out when Jadeja produced another great piece of fielding.
