NSW name squad to play Qld at SCG

NSW have made several changes to play Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week at the SCG following last week’s embarrassing defeat to Western Australia in Perth.

The Blues were beaten by an innings and 323 by the Warriors at the WACA Ground in NSW’s biggest innings defeat since 1926-27.

Despite the defeat only one of the three changes is based on form with Shane Watson (international duty) and Nathan Hauritz (shoulder injury) unavailable.

Fast bowler Tim Van Der Gugten is the sole player dropped as Nic Maddinson, Scott Coyte, Mitchell Starc and Simon Katich return to the line-up.

The game against the Bulls, who are still chasing a spot in this year’s final with two games remaining, begins on Thursday.

The Blues are languishing second last on eight points on the Shield table with no chance of making the final.

NSW: Stephen O’Keefe (capt), Trent Copeland, Scott Coyte, Brad Haddin, Phil Hughes, Simon Katich, Usman Khawaja, Josh Lalor, Nic Maddinson, Peter Nevill, Ben Rohrer, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc.
