NSW chase 233 for women’s cricket title

A century from Queensland Fire’s Jodie Fields has set NSW Breakers a competitive 233 to chase in the final of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) at the SCG.

Fields’ unbeaten 102 (off 122 balls) on Sunday was the standout knock of the Fire’s 7-232 off their allotted 50 overs, as NSW seek an eighth successive WNCL win.

A single to mid-on off Sarah Coyte in the 48th over brought up a deserved hundred for Fields, with Jemma Barsby the second top-scorer for the Fire with 27 off 29 balls.

With Queensland’s innings in danger of falling to pieces at 6-168, Fields and Barsby combined for a 62-run stand for the seventh wicket before Barsby skied a top edge to short third man on the third-last ball of the innings.

A strong all-round bowling effort from the Breakers kept the Fire in check for much of the innings.

Coyte was the leading bowler for NSW, claiming 2-34 off her 10 overs.
