NSW 0-24 but in deep trouble against WA

NSW reached the lunchbreak unscathed but still need a minor miracle to save their Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at the WACA Ground.

The Blues were 0-24 at lunch on day three, still a mammoth 445 from making WA bat again in the match, with Shane Watson 19 not out and Phil Hughes unbeaten on five.

The hosts declared their innings closed earlier in the day’s play on 3-560, a 469 first innings lead, as soon as opener Liam Davis passed his maiden first class triple century.

Davis, who shared a 379-run third wicket partnership with Adam Voges, ended on 303 not out but would have fallen short of the milestone had Timm Van Der Gugten held onto a catch on the boundary with Davis on 299.

The resulting drop went over the boundary to give Davis his triple century off 524 balls with 41 fours and six sixes.

Voges was the only wicket to fall in the morning session, caught behind by Brad Haddin off Nathan Hauritz to end the marathon partnership with Davis.

Voges made 178 and his dismissal brought Travis Birt to the crease with Birt unbeaten on 21 when the declaration was made.
