Day two of the tour match between England and Australia A has been abandoned due to poor weather.

Play is due to start at 9.30am local time on day’s three and four, which is half an hour earlier than was originally scheduled.

England will resume at 0-318 after Alastair Cook (154 not out) and Michael Carberry (153no) batted through day one without loss.

Heavy rain fell for much of the day before a pitch inspection took place at about 3.15pm.

The covers were lifted and with players and officials converging on the ground it seemed play would restart.

However, the umpires deemed that the run-up at the southern end of Bellerive Oval was too rain-affected for play to be possible on the Thursday.
