New Zealand have won the toss and will bowl first against South Africa in the first cricket Test in Dunedin.
Rain delayed the start of play on Wednesday morning, and after taking an early lunch the toss was made at 1.45pm and play is due to start at 2.15pm (1215 AEDT) in cool, windy and overcast conditions.
To make up for about three hours of lost time play will go through to 6.30pm (1630 AEDT), allowing an estimated 59 overs.
New Zealand will hand a debut to opener Rob Nicol and South Africa-born wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk.
South Africa allrounder Jacques Kallis has passed a fitness test on his back injury and will take his place in their side.
