New TV rights deal for Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia has signed a new four-year television rights deal with British broadcaster Sky Sports to provide live coverage of international and domestic cricket in the United Kingdom.

The deal extends a 20-year association with Sky Sports and will include exclusive coverage of Australia’s home Test and limited-over series until 2015-16, highlighted by the 2013-14 Ashes tour.

In addition to international matches, Sky Sports has rights to broadcast matches from domestic competitions including the Twenty 20 Big Bash League, the domestic one-day competition and women’s tournaments.

The deal starts with this year’s South Africa and Sri Lanka Test series, and also provides coverage for viewers in other parts of Europe.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland welcomed the extension of the long-term partnership.

“Sky Sports depth and breadth of cricket coverage in the UK is unparalleled across multiple platforms,” Sutherland said.

“We want fans to have the best possible coverage of Australian cricket content, wherever they live, and we are confident that Sky will deliver with its expertise and knowledge of the game.”

The British broadcaster also announced it had finalised new television rights deals with South Africa and India.

In India, Sky’s six-year deal encompasses tours involving Australia, England and South Africa.
