More concerns have been raised about the Bellerive pitch ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the venue in Hobart next month.
Queensland rolled Tasmania in less than two days on the strip in the Sheffield Shield match that began Saturday after bad weather prevented play on the opening day.
The Tigers made just 95 and 142, while Queensland’s first innings 360 came on the back of a standout 138 from Usman Khawaja and some lusty lower-order hitting.
Tasmania’s low scores came a week after the 200-mark was passed just once in four innings of the match against South Australia on the newly relaid turf.
Khawaja said he’d noticed “dead spots” on the greenish strip and Bulls captain Chris Hartley said a short game had always been on the cards.
“I don’t think you’re going to be getting too many games going the full four days (if the wicket’s) like that,” he told reporters.
“Just the up-and-down makes it really hard for batsmen.”
Tasmania coach Tim Coyle said the Bellerive ground staff were still perfecting the new surface.
“There’s obviously some issues with the wicket being new and the difficulties the ground staff have got with that, and particularly in getting the wicket hard enough … and compact enough,” he said.
“The wicket could be better but at the end of the day there’s two teams out there playing on it.”
Australia plays the first Test against Sri Lanka at Bellerive from December 14-18.
