Indian cricket boss Lalit Modi has revealed he is suing former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns over their 2012 court case.

Modi has applied to the High Court in London to have the libel verdict set aside in the wake of Cairns being charged with perjury, The Telegraph reports.

He is seeking more than STG2.4 million ($A4.38 million) from the former national captain.

Modi’s lawyer Rajesh Vyakarnum told the paper they were seeking damages and court costs but would not elaborate as Cairns is still being investigated.

In 2012, Cairns won STG90,000 ($A164,000) in damages when he sued the Indian Premier League founder over a 2010 tweet that accused the Kiwi of match-fixing.

However, earlier this year police charged Cairns with perjury, alleging the 44-year-old made a statement during the libel trial that he knew to be false when he declared he’d “never ever cheated at cricket”.

His lawyer Andrew Fitch-Holland, is also charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.

The case is due to go to trial in London in October next year.
