Maxwell back for Bushrangers in Shield

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been recalled to Victoria’s Sheffield Shield squad for the clash with Western Australia after recovering from a knee injury.

Maxwell has been sidelined since suffering a grade-two tear of the posterior cruciate ligament while playing for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.

He replaces fellow allrounder Andrew McDonald, who is unavailable for the clash against the table-topping Warriors at the WACA ground starting on Thursday due to personal reasons.

With just two rounds remaining, WA top a congested Shield table with 32 points ahead of Queensland (30), Tasmania (28) and Victoria (24).

“It’s an important game in the context of our season,” said Victorian coach Greg Shipperd.

“It’s another opportunity for our younger players to show what they can do and for us to remain in contention for another Shield title.”

Victoria: Cameron White (capt), Scott Boland, Ryan Carters, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, Jayde Herrick, Jon Holland, Glenn Maxwell, Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Will Sheridan, Peter Siddle (12th man to be named).
