Shaun Marsh reached triple figures after Cameron Bancroft missed out with Western Australia well in control after two days of the Sheffield Shield match with Queensland at the WACA Ground.

The efforts of Bancroft, Marsh and earlier Michael Klinger (59) have allowed WA to assume control over Queensland with the Warriors 7-342 at stumps on day two in reply to Queensland’s 163 with a lead of 179.

Opening batsman Bancroft was given out on 99 to miss out, by the barest of margins, on a second century in as many Shield matches this season.

Marsh scored 111 in fine fashion from 196 deliveries, with 18 boundaries, as the fringe Test batsman continues his comeback from an elbow injury.

Nathan Rimmington remains not out on 22 after starring with the ball on Saturday claiming a career-best 5-27, while Jason Behrendorff is yet to score.

It was a long day, and night, in the field for the Bulls but captain James Hopes was outstanding with the ball finishing the day with figures of 4-52 from 33 overs.

WA began the second day on 1-63 and despite the slow going early with five straight maidens, Bancroft and Klinger worked WA on top with a 107-run partnership in 299 balls before Hopes had Klinger out caught behind by Chris Hartley for 59.

It was the same mode of dismissal shortly after for WA captain Adam Voges without scoring, but Bancroft and Marsh then combined for a 108-run stand before the former was unluckily given out caught behind off Hopes fending at a wide delivery.

WA were then 4-225 and continued to make steady progress despite losing Sam Whiteman (18) and Ashton Turner (4), but Marsh was able to bring up his 11th first-class century before falling leg before to Hopes just minutes before stumps.
