Littlejohn leaving NZ Cricket selector job

New Zealand Cricket selection boss Kim Littlejohn will leave when his two-year contract expires in September.

Australian Littlejohn, who was a controversial appointment as NZC general manager of national selection in 2011, won’t reapply for the role.

NZC chief executive David White told Fairfax Media that the scope of the job has been reviewed and advertising for Littlejohn’s position would begin this month.

“Kim is a good guy. He’s worked hard in a challenging environment,” White said.

“In terms of the new person, we are looking for someone with more cricketing knowledge and experience at first-class and international level; someone with a strong knowledge of the New Zealand cricket environment.”

Littlejohn started the position after nearly seven years in a high performance role for Bowls Australia.

His lack of cricket experience was seized on by his critics, along with a selection method that they said was driven primarily by statistics.
