Sri Lankan officials had an informal discussion with ICC match referee Chris Broad over an allegation Australian players were ball-tampering in the first Test at Bellerive.
Sri Lankan team manager Charith Senanayake has confirmed he spoke with Broad about Australians allegedly lifting the seam on the ball.
“All that happened is we have had informal chats with the match referee about what happened about what we saw on TV – everybody saw it – and we just asked what action are you going to do about it? – that’s all,” Senanayake told The Australian.
“It’s unofficial, but it’s on video and the whole world has seen it so let’s see what action they will take.”
The ICC issued a statement on Tuesday morning saying Broad had received no formal complaint about the matter.
“ICC match referee Chris Broad is aware of the media reports coming out of Sri Lanka on the ball issue,” it read.
“The Sri Lankan team has made no official complaint about the ball.”
Sri Lankan newspaper the Daily News claimed two “prominent Australians” were noticed picking the seam during the first innings.
“It is hoped that an inquiry will be held and that if the story is true, appropriate action will be taken and the culprits exposed,” the report read.
An unsourced report on website cricinfo said Sri Lankan officials were concerned by footage of Australian paceman Peter Siddle, who took 5-54 in the first innings.
