Klinger anchors Strikers’ 4-162

Opener Michael Klinger steered the Adelaide Strikers to 4-162 in the Big Bash League match against the Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive.

Klinger struck an unbeaten 71 from 61 balls with eight fours to anchor the Strikers’ total.

Hurricanes spinner Xavier Doherty was the pick of the bowlers with 1-25 from his four overs.

Klinger’s opening partner Tim Ludeman (3 from 3) was out to one of the more bizarre dismissals seen in recent times.

Ludeman was caught at square leg by Ben Laughlin but the opener’s bat flew out of his hands as he played the shot, landing near the catcher.

When Kieron Pollard (9 from 7) was bowled cheaply trying to hit Evan Gulbis (1-35) out of the ground, Klinger put on a partnership of 59 with Callum Ferguson (32 from 23) before Ferguson was run out.

Klinger and Nathan Reardon (29 from 23) then put on 70 for the fourth wicket before skipper Johan Botha (12 from 3) reversed the first two balls he faced to the boundary and hit another four off his third.

Adelaide need a win to stay in touch with the finals, while a win for the Hurricanes would all but seal their place in the semis.
