India spinner Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets on day two of the third Test against Australia but the scalp of Michael Clarke was the one that stood out.
Jadeja has taken 17 wickets in his four-Test career and four of them have been Clarke’s, the player who was the leading runscorer in the game in 2012.
“It’s happening like that as of now!,” the 24-year-old left-arm slow bowler said on Friday after Australia had reached 7-273 at stumps on day two following a first-day wash-out.
“But it’s not that I want to get him out only. But luckily when I’m bowling he’s coming to bat and in this series four times I’ve got him.
“It feels good. His wicket is important for the team because if he scores, they get a big score.
“So it’s very important to get him out as soon as possible.”
Clarke went into the third Test as his side’s leading runscorer in the series with 268 runs after two matches.
The skipper lunged down the pitch first-ball and was stumped by his rival captain MS Dhoni in only his second Test duck since 2009.
“We’ve seen him play like that to left-arm spinners all series and he’s played beautifully,” said Australia opener Ed Cowan who was the non-striker.
“It was a pretty good piece of bowling from the other end. For the first ball to turn and bounce past the bat, that’s how he plays.
“He likes to get down the wicket. He’s done it all series.
“It didn’t work out today but we’ve seen how well he’s been playing.
“It’s rare for him to make a mistake so I guess a bit of credit to the bowler.”
