India’s Dhawan in doubt for Aussie clash

India’s moustache-twirling man-of-the-match Shikhar Dhawan says a knuckle injury could prevent him from playing in Friday’s fourth Test against Australia in Delhi.

Delhi-born Dhawan smashed 187 off 174 balls in India’s first innings, notching the highest score by an Indian player on debut. However he didn’t bat in Monday’s second innings.

“It’s a bruise and I am getting treatment for it,” the 27-year-old said.

“I fell on my knuckles when I dived.”

Skipper MS Dhoni added: “Shikhar may not play in the final Test. You will soon get to know the official confirmation.”

Indian media reports said Dhawan had X-rays which showed no break but he was advised not to bat in India’s second innings.

Dhoni denied his side were seeking revenge for Australa’s four-nil sweep of their series against India in 2011/12.

“In sport, I don’t really think about revenge,” Dhoni said.

“They played well in Australia, we played well over here.

“We exploited the conditions well.”

India lead the four-match series three-nil and have regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
