Hoffman “loving it” at Broncos”: Reed

Proof that Josh Hoffman was “loving it” at the Broncos was on display at the Auckland Nines, according to Brisbane teammate Jack Reed.

Hoffman’s manager Paul Hogan claims the Kiwi international has asked numerous times for a release from the final two years of his contract, sparking speculation the flyer is bound for the Bulldogs.

Brisbane have dug in their heels, saying their strike weapon is going nowhere.

But Reed said Hoffman provided enough evidence that he was happy at the Broncos by helping guide Brisbane to the recent Nines final.

“He seems to be loving it, you saw how he was playing his football,” he said of Hoffman’s impressive Nines campaign.

“He was absolutely killing it over there.

“And he’s one of those players who loves a laugh and has a great attitude.

“I am not sure of his stance but I would love to keep him here as long as possible.

“He’s a talented, freakish player. I hope he stays around.”

Hoffman has reportedly been put out by Brisbane’s recruitment of Ben Barba, who looks set to take the Kiwi’s cherished No.1 jersey.

Asked if Hoffman was happy in the Broncos camp, Reed said: “I think you boys are building it up a bit too much.

“He seems happy here.

“I want him to stay and be a part of the side, he does great things for us.”

The jury is still out on where Brisbane will use Barba in their backline with a question mark also over their No.6 jersey.

Reed said either Barba or Hoffman could spark the side at five-eighth.

“He (Hoffman) is a great fullback, he has scored a million tries for us on the wing and you could slot him in at six,” he said.

“You will have to ask (coach Anthony Griffin) Hook (where Barba will play).

“I think he can play anywhere. He is one of those naturally talented footballers.

“Fullback is his preferred position but I don’t think he would look out of place in a six jersey.”

More light will be shed on Griffin’s intentions when he is expected to unleash a strong squad against the New Zealand Warriors at Dunedin on Sunday.
