Allrounder Moises Henriques says Australia are hoping they can do a bit more damage to India’s batting line-up on a pace-friendly Mohali pitch in Thursday’s third Test.
Michael Clarke’s men have struggled badly against India’s spinners and suffered two crushing defeats to the home side in the first half of the four-match series.
The tourists are pondering adding either Mitchell Johnson or Mitchell Starc to join fellow quicks James Pattinson, Peter Siddle and seamer Henriques in their lineup for the third Test as they strive to draw the series two-all and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“I’ve played here (Mohali) before in limited-overs cricket,” Henriques said on Sunday.
“It is the one place in India, or one of the few places in India, that is renowned for a bit of pace and bounce.
“It’s certainly one place where the quicks could come in and do a little bit more damage.”
Henriques has scored 154 runs at an average of 51.33 in his debut series but has had less success with the ball, claiming 1-93 in total.
“It has been tough,” Henriques said.
“I feel like I’ve been bowling OK without really having that penetration to get through and take some wickets, which a lot of the seam bowlers have been struggling with over here.
“I’ve got to not only be able to keep it tight as the allrounder and build pressure but somehow find a way to start taking some wickets as well.
“It is tough for the quicks over here but maybe we’re not coming up with the right plans.
“So there’s certainly some things that I’m going to try out over the next couple of days to see if there’s some alternate ways to try to get some wickets.”
Henriques said he was only cautiously optimistic about hoping for a helpful pitch.
“I can’t see them rolling out a nice green seamer for us,” he said.
