Harris stars for Australia in tour match

Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris led the way as the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI was dismissed for 201 in the tour match in Barbados.

Harris finished with 4-22 off 13 overs to be the pick of the bowlers while Michael Beer chipped in with four wickets to push his own claim for a Test appearance.

After a slow start where just 58 runs were scored for the loss of one wicket in the morning session at the 3Ws Oval in Bridgetown, Harris fired to take three quick wickets as the WICB President’s XI lost 5-20 in under an hour after the lunch break.

Harris dismissed opener Kieran Powell (42) and then two overs later he removed Nkrumah Bonner (5) and Deven Thomas (0) in his next over off consecutive balls.

A 103-run stand between Dwayne Smith (62) and Jason Holder (49) took the hosts past the tea-break but after Smith became Harris’s fourth victim the innings fell away again.

Beer came back to wrap up the tail, dismissing Jason Holder (49), Delorn Johnson (0) and Nelon Pascal (0) in quick succession.

Nathan Lyon (1-54) and Peter Siddle (1-32) were the other wicket-takers for Australia while James Pattinson (0-18) and Ben Hilfenhaus (0-23) failed to strike although Hilfenhaus was unlucky with Shane Watson and Peter Nevill dropping catches off the Tasmanian’s bowling.
