Harris retires, Cummins into Ashes squad

Ryan Harris’ cricket career is over, with the Australian paceman’s degenerative knee forcing him to retire.

Selectors have summoned Pat Cummins to England following Harris’ retirement.

Harris was determined to feature in the Ashes, having spent the past six months on a carefully-managed fitness program in an effort to be fully prepared for the tour.

However, the 35-year-old suffered a setback after bowling 30 overs against Kent in the visitors’ opening tour game.

He was sent for two rounds of scans before deciding his body could offer no more.
