Harris back from IPL with another injury

Australian Test paceman Ryan Harris has returned home from the Indian Premier League to have scans on his latest injury concern.

Just 11 weeks out from the first Ashes Test in Nottingham, Harris flew in to Sydney to have tests on an achilles tendon injury aggravated while playing for Kings XI Punjab.

“Harris has been ruled out for six to eight weeks, so it was best for him to be released and recover at home,” Arvinder Singh, the Kings XI chief operating officer, told Cricinfo.

On Wednesday, Harris was chosen in a 16-man Australian squad for the five-Test Ashes tour to England starting in June.

Selectors took a bit of a punt in picking Harris given the injury troubles the 33-year-old has endured in recent times.

Harris rocketed into Ashes contention on the back of a rampaging comeback at the end of the last Australian domestic season after being sidelined for almost a year.

His three-game return included the Sheffield Shield final, where the right-arm Queenslander proved his form and fitness by taking match figures of 7-139 from 54 overs.

Despite that heavy workload, Harris insisted last month that playing Twenty20 cricket in India was the best way to maintain his strength.

Harris appeared in the first three games for the Kings XI Punjab, coached by his Queensland mentor Darren Lehmann, but pulled up sore and missed the last few matches.
