Three former internationals including Black Caps great Sir Richard Hadlee have again made a New Zealand cricket team, this time confirmed in a new-look NZ Cricket board.
Former NZC chief executive Martin Snedden, one-time NZC general manager Geoff Allott and Hadlee – chairman of selectors from 2000-08 – are on the eight-person board, which “will lead the sport in the countdown to hosting ICC Cricket World Cup 2015”, it was announced on Thursday.
New board members are business identities Neil Craig and Liz Dawson, who will join current directors Greg Barclay, Stuart Heal and Don MacKinnon.
The first meeting will be held on October 23, when a chair will be elected.
Former chairman Chris Moller, Therese Walsh, Bill Francis and Sir John Hansen confirmed they were stepping down earlier in the year.
Hadlee is one of New Zealand’s most famous cricketers and has been extensively involved in the game since he stopped playing.
Former fast bowler Allott is the chief executive of Quality New Zealand and a former NZC manager.
Another former bowler, Snedden is chief executive of the Tourism Industry Association. He has been on the board before and was chief executive of Rugby New Zealand 2011, which delivered the Rugby World Cup.
The changes followed criticism of the handling of elements of the Black Caps’ captaincy fallout, when Brendon McCullum replaced Ross Taylor late last year.
There had also been criticism that the board lacked cricketing nous and experience.
