Brad Haddin will make a fantastic Australian captain, says injured skipper Michael Clarke.

Clarke hailed Haddin’s fill-in captaincy as crucial to Australia’s stirring first Test triumph against India.

Haddin is expected to take the reigns with Clarke to miss the rest of the series with a hamstring strain.

The wicketkeeper’s rise to the captaincy completes a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a man dumped from the Test team in October 2012.

Haddin on Saturday took over when Clarke was forced from the field and piloted Australia to a 48-run victory.

“Hadds did a fantastic job,” Clarke said.

“He has got a lot of other senior players around him which I’m sure would have helped him, they certainly help me when I’m out there.

“And I have got all the faith in the world that things won’t change in the next three Tests matches with Brad in charge, if he is the captain.

“I’m very confident he will do a wonderful job and he has got a lot of support.”

Clarke said Haddin would continue Australia’s attacking tradition which was on show when the hosts took eight wickets in the final session of the Adelaide Test.

“The one thing I’m most proud of is we didn’t shy away from trying to win the game,” Clarke said.

“We continued to attack, to try to take wickets. And that is the brand of cricket I love seeing Australia play.”
