Haddin hits 50 as Blues set Qld 435

Brad Haddin has warmed up for next week’s Ashes opener by blasting an unbeaten half-century for NSW in the Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at Allan Border Field.

Haddin reached his 50th first-class half-century in just 43 balls as the Blues made 8(dec)-270 in their second innings to set the Bulls an unlikely 435 for victory.

The Test wicketkeeper belted three sixes in his knock, including two off consecutive Cameron Boyce (2-85) deliveries as the Blues scored at 4.66 runs an over.

Opener Nic Maddinson (72) was the top-scorer with his second half-century of the match while Queensland quick Alister McDermott finished with 4-44 off 12 overs.

Earlier in the innings Test pair David Warner and Steven Smith fell playing loose shots after brief cameos before lunch on day three.

Warner scored a few streaky boundaries in a rapid-fire 21 before chopping a McDermott delivery onto his stumps.

Smith raced to 36 off just 32 deliveries before playing all around a straight delivery by McDermott and losing his leg stump.

The Bulls were earlier only able to add six runs to their overnight score before being dismissed for 222 in reply to the Blues’ first-innings of 368.
