Queensland paceman Matthew Gale was helped from the field after landing heavily on his left knee in the Sheffield Shield cricket match against Victoria at the MCG.
The Bushrangers were 1-144 at tea on the rain-affected second day in reply to Queensland’s first innings 322.
Chris Rogers had made 83 and Michael Hill was on 41.
Gale went to slide for a ball in the outfield, but instead his knee made heavy contact and took a divot out of the ground.
He looked in considerable pain as teammates James Hopes and Luke Pomersbach helped him from the field four overs before tea.
Nathan Reardon also spent time off the field on day two.
After an hour’s play, the match was stopped for about 90 minutes because of persistent rain.
Stumps are now scheduled for 7pm AEDT, about an hour later than usual.
Seven balls after play resumed from the rain break, spinner Nathan Hauritz trapped Rob Quiney lbw for 19.
Rogers edged paceman Ronan McDonald when he was on 61, but the ball fell short of Peter Forrest at first slip.
The left hander was on the same score when was given not out for a caught behind appeal down the leg side off Gale’s bowling.
Rogers has made 29 first-class centuries for WA and Victoria.
