Finch flogs Lions as Australia A make 285

Australia A captain Aaron Finch pummelled a wayward England Lions attack in the fourth one-day cricket match at the SCG on Monday to steer his side to 8-285.

After winning the toss, Finch belted 109 off 117 balls and with Adam Voges, who struck 81 off 105 balls, added 177 in quick time for the third wicket.

The innings lost some momentum following Voges’s dismissal from a direct hit run out from Rikki Clarke at mid-on.

The Australians lost 4-25 with Ben Rohrer (three), Finch and John Hastings (one) all perishing to catches.

Tim Paine (32 off 27) and Cameron Boyce (17 off 10) added some late lustre to the batting with a stand of 44 off 26 balls before both were bowled by paceman Toby Roland-Jones (3-58 off nine overs).

Medium-pacer Clarke (1-36 off 10) was the most effective bowler, but didn’t have much competition.

England didn’t help their cause by bowling a staggering 19 wides, with the Australia A innings finishing more than 15 minutes after the scheduled time.

Roland-Jones was the chief culprit, sending down an extra nine deliveries, four of them in one ten-ball over.

Roland-Jones and new ball partner Chris Wright (2-53 off nine) bowled 10 wides between them in the first six overs and it wasn’t till the seventh that England managed to bowl just the minimum six deliveries.

Despite their inaccuracy, the two quicks did each snap up an early wicket.

Wright bowled Joe Burns (four) in the third over and Roland-Jones had Callum Ferguson (10) caught at first slip.
