South Australian strokeplayer Callum Ferguson fell just short of a century against NSW on day two of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.
Ferguson was last man out for 97 when the Redbacks were dismissed for 288 some 30 minutes into Tuesday’s second day of the day-night fixture.
Ferguson was bowled when he bottom-edged an attempted pull shot from Steve O’Keefe’s bowling, giving the NSW spinner his fifth wicket.
O’Keefe finished with 5-89 from 36.2 overs while paceman Josh Hazlewood took 3-55 from 24 overs. Quicks Doug Bollinger and Trent Copeland claimed one wicket each.
Ferguson resumed on 89 on Tuesday but SA added just six more runs before Chadd Sayers (18) was dismissed by Hazlewood for 18.
Sayers attempted a hook shot but only succeeded in popping a catch to Scott Henry at square leg.
Ferguson then went on the attack in search of his century, smacking a four and a six from consecutive O’Keefe deliveries, before falling in the tweaker’s next over.
