England pace bowler Steve Finn feels his team are only one inspirational bowling spell away from getting back into the third and deciding Test against New Zealand.
New Zealand begin day two of the Eden Park Test on 1-250 courtesy of a 79-run opening stand between Peter Fulton and an unbeaten second wicket partnership of 171 between Fulton and Kane Williamson.
England got little life out of the pitch after putting New Zealand in to bat but Finn felt they were still in the match.
“We would’ve liked to have taken more than one wicket obviously, but we’re looking for more tomorrow. They’ve only got 250 on the board and a crazy session tomorrow can turn the game on its head,” Finn said.
“You know in Test cricket that you are only one spell away from turning the game on its head and we have got people in the team who are capable of that.”
Fulton scored his first Test century and will start the second day on 124, with Williamson 17 short of his fourth Test ton.
New Zealand are in a similar position to what England were after the first day of the second Test and Fulton hopes New Zealand can get at least the 465 which England eventually scored in Wellington.
“We’ve had a good day but we’ve got to make sure we turn up tomorrow and carry on that good work and try to get as a good a score as possible,” he said.
“I guess we probably want to bat a couple more sessions, similar probably to the length of time England batted in that Test in Wellington,” he said.
The series is currently tied at 0-0 after rain-affected Tests in Dunedin and Wellington.
