Cricket Australia (CA) says it’s too early to discuss whether Thursday’s deadly bomb blasts in the Indian city of Hyderabad means the second Test scheduled to start on March 2 will have to be moved.
Australia’s four-Test series against India is due to start on Friday in Chennai, amid concern over tour security following Thursday’s incidents which killed at least 18 people.
“We’re aware of the unfortunate incident in Hyderabad,” a CA spokesman said on Thursday night.
“The safety of the squad is of paramount importance and Australian team management and CA staff are liaising with the BCCI (Indian board), local authorities and Australian High Commission to ensure we have all the appropriate information.
“To date, we have no information to suggest there is any threat to the team in Chennai as a result of this incident.”
The spokesman denied Indian TV reports that the tourists were refusing to go to Hyderabad.
“It’s far too premature to start suggesting anything like that,” the spokesman said.
